What After Maharashtra RTE Application?

Following the online application submission, a date for the online lottery draw will be publicly announced. A single-phase lottery will be conducted for the 2026-2027 academic year to fill 25% of the seats reserved under the RTE Act.

A waiting list (up to the number of available RTE seats) will be generated for each school. Students who win the lottery will be given sufficient time to secure admission.

  • If vacancies arise after the initial admissions, students on the waiting list will be contacted sequentially (first, second, third, and so on) through the National Informatics Centre (NIC).

  • Each student on the waiting list will receive a message informing them about the available seat. They must then obtain the allotment letter and complete the admission process within the specified timeframe.

RTE Admission: Post-Lottery Procedures

After the lottery draw, the names and mobile numbers of the selected students will be provided to the verification committees through their logins on the RTE portal.

  • The verification committee will then contact parents on the specified dates to collect original documents and obtain copies of the same.

  • Following a preliminary document check, online registration will be conducted for each student.

  • The parents will be issued a provisional admission letter and required to sign an undertaking.

Maharashtra RTE Admission 2026: Reservation criteria

As per Section 12(C)(1) of the Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, 25% of seats in various schools across Maharashtra, including self-financed and unaided institutions, police welfare schools, and municipal schools, are reserved for children from economically weaker sections (EWS) and other disadvantaged groups. This reservation aims to guarantee equitable access to quality education for children from less privileged backgrounds.

Maharashtra RTE Admission 2026 School Selection

During the Maharashtra RTE admission application process, parents are required to carefully select up to ten schools as preferences for their child's admission. To ensure accurate consideration, the aerial distance between the child's residence and each selected school must be precisely calculated. It is crucial to utilise Google Maps for this distance calculation.

Furthermore, the location of the residence needs to be accurately marked within the application portal. The portal provides a "balloon feature" that allows for precise pinpointing of the residence on the map. Parents have the flexibility to adjust this location up to five times to ensure the most accurate representation of their residence.
