CBSE Class 12 CGPA & Percentage Calculator : CBSE 12th Grading System 2025

CBSE Class 12 CGPA & Percentage Calculator : CBSE 12th Grading System 2025

Garima SihagUpdated on 13 Oct 2025, 06:57 PM IST

The CBSE Class 12 grading system employs a nine-point scale, spanning from A1, the highest, to E, the lowest, with each grade representing a specific range of marks. Notably, CBSE uses relative grading, meaning grades are assigned based on the student's performance relative to their peers rather than solely on absolute scores. Passed students are ranked and divided into eight equal groups, each receiving a distinct grade. While the CBSE provides grades, students often require percentage conversions for college admissions, achieved by multiplying the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) by 9.5.

To pass the Class 12 CBSE exams, students must secure a minimum of 33% in each subject, with subjects containing practical components requiring separate 33% scores in theory and practical exams, as well as an overall 33% aggregate. The grade distribution is designed to reflect relative student performance, with the top 1/8th of successful candidates earning an A1 grade. It's important to note that the CBSE does not issue overall divisions or distinctions on its mark sheets.

The grading scale ranges from A1 (highest) to E (requiring improvement), with each grade corresponding to a defined mark range; for instance, A1 signifies scores between 91 and 100. The final grade is determined by aggregating CBSE 12th theory exams and practical examination marks. To ensure fairness and address potential ties, the CBSE may implement minor adjustments to grade boundaries. Students receiving E1 or E2 grades are offered supplementary support and opportunities for improvement through reassessments.

Tie-Breaking and Grade Allocation in CBSE Class 12 Grading

In the event of a tie where two or more students achieve identical scores in CBSE results, they will be awarded the same grade. If the number of students at a specific score point necessitates a division between two adjacent grade segments, the smaller segment will be merged with the larger one.

The CBSE 12th grading system 2026 will be applied to subjects where the number of successful candidates exceeds 500. For subjects with fewer than 500 passing candidates, the CBSE 12 grading will be implemented following the pattern of grading and distribution observed in comparable subjects with a higher student count.
