    HBSE Passing Marks 2026

To obtain the certificate of qualification, students are required to successfully pass each of the five subjects in the external examination independently.

    • The Haryana Board exam practical exams follow the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) pattern. This HBSE 10th exam pattern and 12th exam pattern incorporate both theoretical and practical components. To pass a subject, students must achieve an overall score of at least 33%, which includes marks from the external examination, Internal Assessment (INA) where applicable, and practical exams. This requires a minimum of 33% in the external examination and 33% in practical exams.

    • The Haryana 10th theory examination carries 80 marks, while practical examinations and internal assessments contribute 20 marks. Whereas, the 12th HBSE exams carry 80 marks in some theory subjects and 60 in others. There is no minimum passing score for Internal Assessment (INA). For subjects assessed solely through internal assessment, grades will be displayed on the certificate, and no minimum grade is required to pass.

To successfully pass the HBSE Board examination, students must achieve the minimum passing marks as stipulated by the board. Below, we have tabulated subject-wise passing marks for the Class 10 and 12 board exams.

How does Grace Marks work in HBSE?

The Haryana Board of School Education (HBSE) may award grace marks to assist students in passing the board examinations if they fall short of the minimum passing marks (33%). This provision allows for the allocation of 1% grace marks per subject, specifically to help students achieve the minimum passing score in as many subjects as possible. It is important to note that these grace marks are intended solely for qualifying purposes and do not contribute to an improvement in the overall grade.

    Haryana Board Passing Criteria

The Haryana Board of School Education (HBSE) has established specific rules and regulations for the issuance of mark sheets and passing certificates to students. To qualify for the certificate, students must fulfil the following criteria:

    • Subject-wise Passing: Students must individually pass all five subjects of the external HBSE 10 examination and the Haryana Board 12th exam.

    • Minimum Passing Marks: A minimum of 33% marks is required in both theory and practical examinations for each subject to be considered "Pass."

    • Calculation of Aggregate Marks: If a student passes all six subjects (including any optional subject), the five subjects with the highest scores in the external examination will be considered for calculating the aggregate marks and Grade Point Average. The subject with the lowest score will be excluded from this calculation. In cases where multiple subjects have the same lowest score, the subject to be excluded will follow a specific order of priority.

    • Compartmental Examinations: Students who fail to achieve the minimum passing marks in either the theory or practical examination of a specific subject will be required to reappear for that particular paper. However, if a student fails only in the theory exam, their practical marks from the initial board examination will be retained.

Unable to Pass Exam? Know What to Do

Students who fail to achieve the minimum passing score of 33% in any subject will be required to appear for a Haryana Board compartmental examination. The HBSE provides three opportunities for students to clear the compartmental examination: the supplementary examination, the Annual examination, and the subsequent Supplementary examination.

Candidates have a maximum of three years to earn their qualification certificate, with a total of six attempts permitted. This can be achieved in a single attempt or through multiple attempts in parts.

If a candidate fails to qualify within the three-year timeframe, their HBSE result will be marked as "NPE" (Needs Proficiency Enhancement) for the subjects in which they did not meet the qualifying grade/marks. In such cases, the candidate must reapply for admission according to the established regulations to obtain the qualification certificate.
