Maharashtra Board Exams 2026: What is the Two-Exam System?
The two-examination system is being introduced by various boards with the motive of giving students multiple chances to improve their scores, and align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The Karnataka Board has been successfully conducting the 3-examination system for a couple of years now. It has provided students with a lot of edge and flexibility to improve their scores. The aim has been to reduce mental pressure to score well in just 1 examination. The board conducts exams three times a year for both SSLC and PUC students.
The CBSE Board, as well, has confirmed that all students will be allowed to take CBSE 10th board exams on up to two occasions during any given school year, one main examination and one for improvement, if desired.
What About the Maharashtra Board? Will it Conduct Board Exams Twice?
As of now, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has made no official announcement regarding the adoption of a two-exam system for SSC or HSC students.
Currently, the board continues with its traditional single annual exam format, followed by MSBSHSE supplementary exams for those who do not pass in one or more subjects.

The MSBSHSE typically conducts one main board exam (usually in February-March) and a supplementary exam (generally in July-August) for students who need a second chance.
This supplementary exam is different from the ‘two-exam system’, where both attempts may become a part of the regular schedule and open to all students.
