JKBOSE 2026: History and Evolution

• Established on March 24, 1965, as the Jammu & Kashmir Board of Secondary Education, it was later renamed in 1975 under the JK State Board of School Education Act.

• From 1965–75, the Vice-Chancellor of Jammu & Kashmir University also chaired the board. In 1975, it became an autonomous body; the first independent chairperson was Agha Ashraf Ali.

Under the PARAKH (Performance Assessment, Review and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development) initiative established by NCERT, the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education was evaluated across five key domains. The review indicated strong performance in Administration (87%), with Assessment (68%) and Infrastructure (66%) also reflecting relatively positive outcomes. However, the evaluation highlighted lower scores in Curriculum (30%) and Inclusiveness (18%), suggesting areas where further development and strategic focus could strengthen the board’s overall educational delivery.
