Established under the Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education Act, 1975, the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) is the official education board responsible for conducting JKBOSE Class 10 exams and JK Board Class 12 examination in the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. JKBOSE operates from two main offices located in Rehari Colony, Jammu, and Bemina, Srinagar.

Established on March 24, 1965, as the Jammu & Kashmir Board of Secondary Education, it was later renamed in 1975 under the JK State Board of School Education Act.
From 1965–75, the Vice-Chancellor of Jammu & Kashmir University also chaired the board. In 1975, it became an autonomous body; the first independent chairperson was Agha Ashraf Ali.
