CBSE Admission 2025-26: Eligibility, Procedure, Age Criteria
The CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) admission process for the academic year 2026 will begin in late 2025 or early 2026. The exact CBSE admission dates and procedures may vary depending on the specific school and location. Students can fill out a CBSE application form, which can be either online or offline. They must submit copies of their birth certificate, previous academic records, and other required documents.

Some schools may conduct entrance exams as part of the CBSE admission process. The CBSE or individual schools will release a notification regarding the CBSE school admission process, including the CBSE board exam date 2026 and deadlines. If they are selected, they will receive a confirmation letter or admission offer. At last, they need to pay the tuition fees and other required charges before the specified deadline.
CBSE Admission 2026 Eligibility
A student wishing to gain admission to any class in a 'School' will qualify for enrollment in that class only if he meets the following criteria:
They have been enrolled in a school that is recognised by or affiliated with this Board or any other accredited Board of Secondary Education in India;
They have completed a qualifying or equivalent examination that renders them eligible for admission to that class.
They adhere to the age requirements (both minimum and maximum) as stipulated by the State/U.T. Government relevant to the location of the School;
They provide:
A School Leaving Certificate or Transfer Certificate, duly signed by the Head of the Institution last attended, and countersigned if necessary as outlined in these Byelaws;
Documentation verifying his completion of the qualifying or equivalent examination; and
A Date of Birth Certificate issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths, where applicable, as evidence of his date of birth.

CBSE Admissions 2026 Up to Class VIII
State/UT Regulations: Admissions for Classes VI to VIII are governed by the rules and regulations of the State or Union Territory where the school is located.
CBSE Admission 2026 to Class IX
Eligibility: Students must have passed Class VIII from a school affiliated with the CBSE or any other recognized board.
CBSE Admission 2026 to Class X
Integrated Course: As the Class X syllabus is a two-year integrated course, direct admission to Class X is not allowed.
Eligibility:
Students must have completed a regular course of study for Class IX.
Students must have passed the Class IX examination from a CBSE-affiliated school.
Students who have passed Class IX from a recognized board other than CBSE can only be admitted if their parents or families are transferring to a new location. They must provide a mark sheet and transfer certificate countersigned by the relevant educational authorities. Schools must obtain post-facto approval from the CBSE within a month of such admissions.
CBSE Admission 2026 to Class XI
Eligibility: Students must have passed:
The CBSE Secondary School Examination (Class X)
An equivalent examination conducted by another recognised board or an Indian university
CBSE Admission 2026 to Class XII
Direct Admission: Direct admission to Class XII is not allowed.
Eligibility:
Students must have completed a regular course of study for Class XI.
Students must have passed the Class XI examination from a CBSE-affiliated school.

Bye-law 6.2: Admissions for students who have passed qualifying examinations from an examining body outside India are regulated according to Bye-law 6.2 of the CBSE.
Regular Course Requirement: Students must have completed the regular course of study for Class IX and XI, respectively, to be eligible for admission to Class X and Class XII.

Admission Register
Mandatory Maintenance: Schools must maintain an admission register in the format prescribed by the relevant State Government, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, or Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.
Student Entry: The name of every student joining the school must be entered in the admission register.
Student Numbers
Sequential Allotment: Each student must be assigned a unique admission number upon enrollment, which should be retained throughout their time at the school.
Reinstatement: Students returning to the school after an absence should resume their original admission number.
Transfer Certificate
Requirement: Students transferring from another school must submit an authenticated copy of their transfer certificate.
Class Placement: Students cannot be admitted to a class higher than the one indicated on their transfer certificate.
Migration Restrictions
Sessions-End Migration: Students cannot transfer to another school during the session after their names have been submitted for board examinations.
Exceptions: The Chairman may waive this restriction in special circumstances.
Transfer Certificate Issuance
Requirements: Students leaving the school at the end of a session or during the session must pay all dues to receive a transfer certificate.
Duplicate Copies: Duplicate transfer certificates may be issued if the head of the institution is satisfied that the original is lost.
Countersigned Transfer Certificates: Students from non-CBSE affiliated institutions must submit a transfer certificate countersigned by the appropriate authority as indicated in Annexure I.
Misrepresentation of Facts
Punishment: If a student or their guardian provides false information during the admission process, the head of the institution may take disciplinary action by the relevant Education Act or rules.
Reporting to the Board: The head of the institution must report such cases to the CBSE.

Yes, in the case that you appeared for the 2025 improvement exam and your roll number is different from what was on the previous year’s marksheet, the board will usually release a new migration certificate. This is because the migration certificate will reflect the most recent exam details, roll number and passing year. You can apply to get it from your board using the process prescribed by them either online or through your school/college.

As you have compartment in Mathematics and you wish to change your stream to Humanities you have 2 options from here on:
1. You could try to study and clear your compartment of Mathematics.
2. You can change your stream to Humanities but you will need to repeat from Class 11th so you will need 2 years from now to clear Class 12th.
My personal suggestion will be to choose Option 1. Trust me I have dealt with this feeling myself and wanted to choose Option 2 but I worked hard and cleared my exams. I was scared not only in Mathematics but Physics, Chemistry and even Computer Science.

The GUJCET merit list is calculated by considering 60% of the marks obtained in Class 12 and 40% of the GUJCET score. CBSE students are also eligible to compete with GSEB students, as the merit list is prepared by combining the Class 12 scores with the GUJCET performance.
Merit Calculation:
- The merit list is calculated by combining the scores from both class and the GUJCET exam
- This means that both your performance in the class 12 board exams and the GUJCET exam are considered when determining your rank
CBSE Students and GUJCET:
- CBSE students can appear for the GUJCET exam, even though they are not from the Gujrat Board
- For CBSE students, the 60% weightage for class 12 marks will be based on their performance in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in their class 12 board exams
- The remaining 40% weightage will be given to their GUJCET score.
